There's a light on your Volkswagen for nearly every conceivable use. Sure, you've got the everyday factory lighting. Headlights are a good example, and a headlight can work as both a low-beam for everyday driving and a high-beam for when it's very dark. They also function as hazard lights, "flashers" that tell others on the road that you need help or that there's danger nearby. And yes, you've got taillights and daytime running lights (also called DRLs) to show drivers around you where and how far away you are. You've even got "blinkers," signal lights that show turns or lane changes, and brake lights, which signal slowdowns and stops.

But did you know that, depending on what VW model you drive, you may have other types of lighting, too? Fog lights are one example. They're excellent for bad weather, as they shine low for reduced glare, yet brightly. Puddle lights are another example. Usually found below your side mirrors, pointed at the pavement, they help you and your passengers avoid rainwater by illuminating the area below your car doors. You may even have specialty lighting. They highlight license plate frames and other exterior accessories. Headlamp or tail lamp, though, most lights are one of a few lamp types: halogen, high-intensity discharge or HID (also known as Xenon), or LED. What lighting does your Volkswagen need? That depends on its model and body style. When to change a car light bulb doesn't, however. Change a Xenon bulb every few years as it dims.
