OEM VW AC System Parts

What the AC system in a Volkswagen does is straightforward: it helps keep the cabin of the car or SUV cool during a drive. It works in stages. First, a compressor turns liquid refrigerant, under pressure, into a hot gas. Second, a condenser turns the gaseous refrigerant back into a liquid by chilling it. Third, an expansion valve draws the liquid in, converting it into a low-pressure gas in the process. Finally, an evaporator rapidly lower the gas's temperature, with help from a cooling fan. Chilled air results: it travels through the vehicle's ducts, out its vents, and into the interior.

Unfortunately, car AC systems can develop problems from time to time. For example, their seals can weaken from use and age. Their hoses can degrade and break. Even their compressors can go bad. When these things happen, other issues follow. Luckily, there are signs to warn you. Watch out for:

  • The air conditioner not cooling properly
  • Higher-than-normal temperatures in the cabin
  • Strange noises coming from the AC when it runs
  • A jammed compressor clutch
  • Accumulating frost
  • The AC button on the instrumentation flashing
  • A lit HVAC warning light
  • Abnormal discharge pressure

Air conditioning that won't cool is often low on refrigerant or leaking it. A cabin that's too warm, the peculiar sounds, and the stuck clutch usually mean the AC compressor is bad. Frost, flashing buttons, lit warning lights, and pressure abnormalities more than likely mean the AC condenser is bad. If you're seeing symptoms like these with your VW, it may be time to repair its AC system. You're in luck; our auto parts store has what you need.
